{"id":211113,"date":"2025-10-08T14:18:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-08T18:18:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/arts\/?p=211113"},"modified":"2025-10-08T14:18:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-08T18:18:14","slug":"guest-industry-visit-erich-soldat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/arts\/2025\/10\/08\/guest-industry-visit-erich-soldat\/","title":{"rendered":"Guest Industry Visit: Erich Soldat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/art-and-design\">Department of Art and Design<\/a> students in <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.montclair.edu\/search\/?search=artx+298\">ARTX 298: Textiles<\/a> had the opportunity to learn directly from industry professional Erich Soldat, owner of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeantextiles.net\/\">Erich Soldat Textile Agency, LLC (European Textiles)<\/a>. His agency has represented leading European mills for more than 20 years, supplying couture houses, designers, and brands across North America with luxurious, innovative, and specialty fabrics. Based in New York\u2019s Garment District, the agency is known for its curated selection of laces, embroideries, jacquards, novelty weaves, and embellishments, as well as its commitment to hands-on service from sampling through production.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Soldat visited both sections of ARTX 298, taught by Professor Julie Panchu and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/~burtonm\">Dr. Michelle Burton<\/a>, to deliver two engaging lectures that connected classroom learning with industry practice:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Fabric Sourcing and Development<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students were introduced to the process of sourcing fabrics and developing custom designs. Mr. Soldat brought original swatches, color cards, and fabric samples to show how customer requests evolve into exclusive finished products. He also highlighted a range of career paths in fashion beyond head designer, giving students insight into creative and impactful roles within the industry. An interactive Q&amp;A gave students the chance to handle professional samples and ask career-focused questions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Textile &amp; Garment Manufacturing and Sustainability<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In his second lecture, Mr. Soldat introduced the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and explained their connection to textile and garment production. He shared case studies from companies he represents, highlighting efforts to reduce resource use, implement clean technologies, and protect natural ecosystems\u2014especially water sources.
