  {"id":208241,"date":"2023-10-23T11:22:34","date_gmt":"2023-10-23T15:22:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/mathematics\/?p=208241"},"modified":"2023-10-23T11:22:34","modified_gmt":"2023-10-23T15:22:34","slug":"msu-modeling-group-presents-at-pme-na2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/mathematics\/2023\/10\/23\/msu-modeling-group-presents-at-pme-na2023\/","title":{"rendered":"MSU Modeling Group Presents at PME-NA2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Mathematics Education Ph.D. candidates\/students Geena Taite, Amanda Provost, Frank Forte, Andre Perkoski, and Youngjun Kim recently presented their research at the annual <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unr.edu\/pmena#:~:text=Call%20for%20proposals-,The%20North%20American%20chapter%20of%20the%20International%20Group%20for%20the,joyful%20experience%20for%20all%20students.\" target=\"_blank\">Psychology of Mathematics Education conference in Reno, Nevada<\/a>. This research team shared findings from their year-long action research study with in-service high school mathematics teachers. They noticed an increase in student engagement during modeling tasks over the course of the school year as teachers were supported through professional development.<\/p>\n<p>This mathematical modeling working group out of Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ certainly got lots of positive attention from the larger mathematical modeling education community at the conference, and their presentation was largely considered one of the best at the conference.<\/p>\n<p>The entire Mathematics Department is so proud of this group.
