As the University celebrates , ĢƵ today announced the creation of the Dr. Kathleen Sunshine Endowed Fund for Global Education, expanding access to international learning opportunities for students.

The fund is established with a $50,000 leadership gift from ĢƵ President Jonathan GS Koppell and his wife, Dr. Jennifer A. Steen, honoring his mother’s legacy of advancing intercultural understanding and global engagement in higher education.

As part of the One Day for ĢƵ fundraising event, Dr. Kathleen Sunshine and her daughter, Carla RS Koppell, have issued a $20,000 challenge, encouraging the ĢƵ community to participate in One Day for ĢƵ and amplify the impact of this new fund.

A Professor Emerita and former dean at Ramapo College, Dr. Sunshine built international academic partnerships, produced global-focused student media and created study abroad opportunities that transformed students’ lives — often providing their first experience beyond the United States.

“The Sunshine Fund reflects our belief that global education should be within reach for every student,” says President Koppell. “I learned from watching my mother how a professor and academic leader can transform the lives of her students through international experience.”

The announcement was timed to coincide with ĢƵ’s World Fair Day, a student-led showcase of the diverse cultures and backgrounds that define the ĢƵ community. It is also Take Your Child to Work Day at ĢƵ, which is appropriate given Dr. Sunshine’s influence on President Koppell who, like his mother, was a Fulbright Scholar and ardent believer in international education.

Gifts made today through One Day for ĢƵ will directly support students who might not otherwise have access to study abroad and other global experiences.
