{"id":216127,"date":"2021-09-28T12:15:46","date_gmt":"2021-09-28T16:15:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/newscenter\/?p=216127"},"modified":"2021-09-29T12:34:44","modified_gmt":"2021-09-29T16:34:44","slug":"montclair-state-votes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/newscenter\/2021\/09\/28\/montclair-state-votes\/","title":{"rendered":"Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ State Votes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As a \u201cVoter Friendly Campus\u201d that earned a place on<em> Washington Monthly\u2019s<\/em> list of \u201cBest Colleges for Student Voting\u201d in 2020, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/civic-and-voter-engagement\/\">Office of Civic &amp; Voter Engagement<\/a> will be working to register voters between now and the New Jersey voter registration deadline of Oct. 12, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>This November 2, New Jersey will go to the polls to vote in the gubernatorial election, as well as answer some ballot questions and elect a few state senate and general assembly members, depending on the district.<\/p>\n<p>Below are some election updates and information to help the University community prepare.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NJ Voter Registration Deadline:<\/strong> October 12, 2021<br \/>\n<strong>NJ Early Voting:<\/strong> October 23-31<br \/>\n<strong>Election Day:<\/strong> Tuesday, November 2, 2021<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/montclair.turbovote.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">TurboVote<\/a> This customized online resource can assist with registering to vote, requesting a vote by mail or absentee ballot, receiving election updates, confirming your polling location and more.<\/p>\n<h2>NJ Election Updates:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>NJ now has <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/nj.gov\/state\/elections\/vote-early-voting.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">in-person early voting<\/a>. Select polls in each county will be open October 23-31.<\/li>\n<li>This year, <strong>you must request a vote-by-mail ballot<\/strong>. It will not be automatically sent to you the way it was for the 2020 election.<\/li>\n<li><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/nj.gov\/state\/elections\/vote-secure-drop-boxes.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">Secure Ballot Drop Boxes on Campus<\/a>. The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ campus spreads across two counties (Essex &amp; Passaic). Each county will have a ballot box on campus.\n<ul>\n<li>The Essex County box will be in the parking lot across from the Red Hawk Statue next to the USPS mailbox, FedEx box, and UPS box.<\/li>\n<li>The Passaic County box will be placed outside Machuga Heights.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you place your vote-by-mail ballot in another county&#8217;s ballot box it will be re-routed to your county, but it will cause a delay. You can also drop off your ballot in a USPS mailbox.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For more information about New Jersey Elections visit <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/vote.nj.gov\" target=\"_blank\">vote.nj.gov<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Help Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ win the NJ Ballot Bowl!<\/h2>\n<p>Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ is once again participating in the <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.state.nj.us\/state\/nj-ballot-bowl.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">NJ Secretary of State&#8217;s Ballot Bowl competition<\/a>. We have placed in our bracket for the past three years. In this competition, we get points for registering new voters, and having eligible voters take the <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/allintovote.org\/take-the-pledge\/\" target=\"_blank\">pledge to vote<\/a>. (We are currently in second place on the pledge to vote leaderboard, behind Rowan University. The leaderboard is updated weekly.)<\/p>\n<h2>Get involved by joining the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ State Votes Coalition<\/h2>\n<p>If civic and voter engagement is important to you, consider joining the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ State Votes Coalition. The coalition meets monthly to share updates and information and to plan ways of raising awareness in our community. Next meeting: Monday, October 11 at 2 p.m. via Zoom.
