Profile
Mark Effron is a Professor of Journalism and Coordinator of the News Lab at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's College of Communication and Media. He oversees the College's award-winning student news productions, including the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ News Lab weekly newscast and the Focus documentary series, and led the creation of Hawk Plus (hawkplus.tv)—the first student-run streaming platform of its kind in the country. He also manages the College's partnership with NBC's New York duopoly, WNBC and Telemundo 47, creating a pipeline of internships and jobs for Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ students, and helps lead the College's Mentoring Program, now in its ninth year.
Before joining Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ, Effron held senior leadership roles across television, cable, radio, and digital media—including Vice President of Breaking News/Daytime Programming at MSNBC, Vice President of News at Post-Newsweek Stations, News Director at WPIX-TV, and General Manager of The Takeaway at New York Public Radio. He holds a Master's Degree in Journalism from Columbia University and a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Brandeis University.
